Garden series I: The survey

Cindy stood at her deck with a mug of hot cocoa and looked over her back yard.

She was looking particularly at the brown patch that was her garden.

Spring is about to start and the snow is melting. The melted snow and icicles run through the gutter and the birds are chirping in the trees.

She makes a mental note of the seeds to plant for the year.

“The tomatoes didn’t do well last year, maybe she will try a different species. The squirrels ate nearly all the cucumbers.” She would have to figure out what to do about them.

It has been a long and hard winter. Her kids who loved the snow even got tired of building snowman and snow forts and making snow angels. It felt like spring would never come.

She looks down and sees the purple bud of a crocus. Breathing in the fresh morning air, she said, “Yep! Spring sure is here!”

No matter how long and hard the season is, this is for sure; seasons come, seasons go.
