CHOOSE YOUR BATTLES…

Peter loves to hike. His family has been hiking since he was a kid.

Now, a college student, his classmates decided to go on a hike as part of their end-of-the-semester get-together.

He thought it would be the perfect time to show off his hiking skills.

At the foot of the peak, instructions were given about the hike and where they were to meet for the picnic.

They all set off.

Peter gave everyone a head start, thinking in his mind, how awesome he must seem to them and what compliments and comments he would get from them at the end of the hike.

It turned into a competition in his mind. Now, he wants to be the first to arrive at the peak.

The hike wasn’t a competition but some of the guys had talked about how they would get there first.

“Look at me now”, Peter thought to himself.

“I am there already!”

And indeed, he was the first!

He breathed in the fresh, crisp air and enjoyed the view.

A few minutes later, it dawned on him that no one yet had arrived.

The gentle wind blew and he heard some sounds from a bit off place. He turned and looked and saw some people. Quickly, he reached for his binoculars and looked,

“What are they doing over there? He asked himself as he saw his classmate setting up a picnic on the other peak.

His arms grew limp as he contemplated that he must have gotten engrossed with thoughts of competition that he had gotten off track at some point, “What am I doing here?” He sighed to himself.

Do not get to the peak only to realize that you have been climbing the wrong mountain.
